ABOUT THE MINE
Bellevue recently moved from developer to producer, with its first gold pour on 25 October 2023. Since then, it has positioned itself as a leading example of responsible gold production with a strong operational and sustainability focus.
A key part of Bellevue’s approach is its ambition to reduce emissions. The mine set out to achieve net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions for the Bellevue Gold Project by 2026, and reached that milestone in 2025. This places Bellevue at the forefront of responsible mining and decarbonisation in the gold sector.
ESG PERFORMANCE
Bellevue aligns with internationally recognised ESG standards and shows how responsible mining can be approached in a practical, measurable way. Its sustainability work includes renewable energy, water management, responsible waste practices, workforce initiatives, and community partnerships.
The mine’s renewable energy setup includes a 90 MW off-grid hybrid power station supported by a 27 MW solar farm and a 24 MW wind farm. Bellevue also prioritises hypersaline water use to reduce fresh water consumption, while tailings and waste management focus on responsible disposal.
Safety also plays a central role. Bellevue highlights a culture of safety leadership and continuous improvement, alongside initiatives that support a diverse and inclusive workforce, including Indigenous trainees, flexible work arrangements, and high female employment targets.
RENEWABLE ENERGY AND NET ZERO
Bellevue achieved net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions for the Bellevue Gold Project in 2025. This was made possible primarily through its off-grid hybrid power station and its broader renewable energy strategy.
According to the Bellevue page, the mine has already demonstrated that it can operate with gas and diesel generation switched off completely. Over time, the power system is expected to achieve up to 80–90% renewable energy penetration across the year, including full days where the mine runs on 100% instantaneous renewable energy.
For companies interested in SMO Gold, this makes Bellevue a particularly relevant source: a producing gold mine with a clear origin, a strong sustainability profile, and a proven decarbonisation strategy.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & BIODIVERSITY
Bellevue presents environmental stewardship as a core part of how the mine operates. Its Environmental Policy and Environmental Management System are supported by studies in flora, fauna, vegetation, and hydrology designed to preserve biodiversity and reduce environmental impact.
The mine is also planning proactively for rehabilitation and mine closure, showing that responsibility is being considered across the full life of the operation, not only during production.
CULTURAL HERITAGE MANAGEMENT
Bellevue places strong emphasis on cultural heritage management. The mine works with the Tjiwarl Aboriginal Corporation through a Native Title Agreement that supports project development while protecting Aboriginal heritage sites.
Through ongoing consultation and engagement, Bellevue identifies, respects, and protects culturally significant sites through its Cultural Heritage Management Plan. This collaborative approach is an important part of how the mine works with Indigenous communities.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Bellevue states that it is committed to workplace respect, health, safety, wellbeing, and mental health. Employees receive training tailored to the health and safety risks of their roles, supported by ongoing programmes including mental health first aid, frontline safety leadership, emergency response training, and first aid.
This broad approach reflects a view of safety that goes beyond compliance and focuses on building a strong workplace culture.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Bellevue highlights diversity and inclusion through initiatives such as Indigenous trainee programmes, gender pay gap audits, and flexible work arrangements. The company has also appointed Diversity Ambassadors to support diversity initiatives and inclusive practices across the workforce.
SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING
Bellevue reports annually on its environmental, social and governance activities and performance through its Sustainability Report. That reporting allows customers and other stakeholders to hold the mine to account and follow its progress over time.
TRACEABILITY EQUALS ACCOUNTABILITY
Bellevue is a strong example of why mine-level traceability matters. Gold from a specific source allows buyers to understand where it comes from and engage more directly with the environmental and social performance of that mine.
For Fairever, that is the value of SMO Gold: a clearly identified mine of origin, a transparent story, and a sourcing option that gives clients more confidence in what they are buying. Bellevue shows how that can look in practice.
