Sometimes, recognition matters not because of a trophy — but because of what it says about a movement.
We are proud that Fairever was nominated for the Leipziger Zukunftspreis 2025/26 in the category “Zukunftsfähig Wirtschaften” (Future-Oriented Business). The award ceremony took place on May 19th in the historic Festsaal of Leipzig’s New Town Hall, hosted by the Forum Nachhaltiges Leipzig together with Leipzig’s mayor Burkhard Jung.
Although we did not take home the final award, the evening reminded us why this work matters in the first place: because real change happens when businesses, social initiatives, and communities start asking better questions about the future they want to build.
And honestly — being nominated alongside so many inspiring initiatives already felt like a win.
Why this nomination matters to us
Fairever was founded with a simple but uncomfortable question:
Where does gold actually come from?
For decades, the gold industry has largely focused on value, purity, and investment security. Much less attention was paid to the people at the beginning of the supply chain — the miners, families, and communities whose livelihoods depend on gold extraction.
At Fairever, we believe responsible sourcing must go beyond marketing claims or simplified sustainability narratives.
That means working with certified Fairtrade and Fairmined gold, having scale with SMO gold, building transparent supply chains, and supporting mining cooperatives that invest in safer working conditions, environmental protection, education, and community development.
We often say:
It is not about perfection, but direction.
The jewelry and precious metals industry is complex. There are no easy one-size-fits-all solutions. But we believe transparency, traceability, and honest conversations are essential starting points.
The nomination for the Leipziger Zukunftspreis showed us that these conversations are increasingly becoming part of a broader economic and societal discussion — not just within the jewelry industry itself.
An evening full of inspiring projects
One of the most beautiful parts of the evening was discovering the diversity of projects and organizations working toward a more sustainable and socially responsible future in Leipzig.
In our category “Zukunftsfähig Wirtschaften”, the awards went to:
- TRASH GALORE, for creating new social and sustainable uses for event materials that would otherwise go to waste
- pluriSelect Life Science, for developing more sustainable laboratory products using bioplastics
We sincerely congratulate both winners and all other awarded initiatives. Their work demonstrates that sustainability is not one single topic — it can mean social participation, circular economy, healthcare, inclusion, education, or responsible business practices.
That diversity matters.
Because sustainability only becomes meaningful when it connects environmental responsibility with social realities and practical action.
Responsible gold sourcing is also about people
As a company working in responsible precious metals, we sometimes notice that discussions around sustainability focus heavily on materials — but less on the people behind them.
Yet more than 150 million people worldwide depend on artisanal and small-scale mining for their livelihoods.
For us, responsible gold sourcing therefore means asking practical questions:
- How can miners work more safely?
- How can communities benefit more fairly from the value of gold?
- How can supply chains become more transparent?
- And how can jewelers, manufacturers, and consumers make informed decisions without greenwashing?
These are not always comfortable discussions. But they are necessary ones.
And that is why recognitions like this nomination are encouraging: they show that future-oriented business is no longer defined only by profit, but increasingly by responsibility, transparency, and long-term thinking.
Looking ahead
The nomination also comes at an exciting moment for Fairever.
In recent years, we have seen growing interest from jewelers, designers, and manufacturers who want to move beyond vague sustainability claims and start building more traceable sourcing strategies.
Many are not looking for perfection.
They are looking for practical first steps.
That is exactly the kind of conversation we want to support.
We are grateful to the Forum Nachhaltiges Leipzig, the jury members, and everyone involved in organizing the Leipziger Zukunftspreis for creating a space where these conversations can happen.
And of course, we are incredibly thankful to our clients, partners, mining cooperatives, and supporters who continue to believe that gold can create positive impact when sourced responsibly.
For us, this nomination is not the finish line.
It is motivation to keep going.
Responsible gold is also becoming relevant for investors
For many people, investment gold has traditionally been seen purely through the lens of stability and value preservation.
But a new question is emerging:
Can investment gold also create positive impact?
We believe the answer is yes.
Through our certified Fairtrade and responsibly sourced gold bars, investors can directly support mining communities while still investing in physical gold.
