Recycled gold with real impact – that’s the promise of our Recycled Gold Credit program. Today, we’re introducing you to Fairmined Credits in more detail.
Fairmined Credits combine high-quality recycled gold with support for already established, Fairmined-certified mines in Latin America. The proven principle: for every gram of recycled gold, it’s guaranteed that elsewhere, one gram of gold is mined under strict Fairmined standards.
Why established Fairmined structures? This is about strengthening and expanding already functioning fair trade systems. Our Recycled Gold Credit+ Fairmined supports communities that have already proven that responsible mining is possible.
The system: Supporting proven standards
Recycled Gold Credit Fairmined works through the established book-and-claim model of the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM). One credit equals one gram of responsibly mined gold from small-scale mining and costs 4.70 US dollars.
Of these 4.70 US dollars, 4.00 US dollars flow directly as Fairmined Premium to the certified mines. The remaining 0.70 US dollars cover development fees for managing the Fairmined initiative.
What’s special: you can choose from 12 certified small-scale mining organizations in three countries which communities you want to support.
Established success stories
Unlike new transformation projects, with Recycled Gold Credit+ Fairmined you can rely on already proven successes:
Chede Mine, Colombia: Since 2018, the first Fairmined-certified, formal, and conflict-free mine in the Department of Cauca. 86 photovoltaic panels already reduce the CO₂ footprint, while workplace safety measures increased productivity by 20%.
Iquira Mine, Colombia: A special honor – gold from this mine was used for the Nobel Prize and the Palme d’Or in Cannes. The cooperative stopped using mercury even before the nationwide ban in 2015 and supports 120 families with a housing project.
CECOMIP, Peru: The first Peruvian Fairmined-certified mine (2016) additionally received the Fairmined Ecological seal in 2021. A committee for equality and the association “Divinas en Brillo de Oro” promote sustainable goldsmithing through handcrafted jewelry.
PRODUMIN, Ecuador: The newest addition (certified in 2024) shows how even larger operations with 415 employees can commit to Fairmined standards.
Field-tested solutions
The book-and-claim model is already successful in other industries – from electricity certificates to fair trade products. Companies like Fairphone are already using it successfully: 91% of the gold in the Fairphone 4 and 90% in their wireless headphones are covered by Fairmined Credits.
The advantage for complex supply chains: physical traceability down to the smallest component is often impossible, but the impact is still measurable and transparently documented.
Practical for you
Implementing Recycled Gold Credit+ Fairmined is deliberately straightforward:
Ordering and certification: You order recycled gold as usual, choose the Fairmined variant, and can even select specific mines. You receive official Fairmined certificates that you can show your customers.
Customer communication: Your customers receive not just a beautiful piece of jewelry, but also an established success story. You can tell them specifically which certified mine is being supported, which standards are being met, and how the proven Fairmined system works.
Transparency and choice: You can choose from different mines and receive detailed information about the respective projects. From solar energy to education programs to gender equality.
Pricing structure: One Fairmined Credit costs 4.70 US dollars per gram of recycled gold. The availability of almost 90 kilograms of credits ensures long-term planning security.
Proven standards, new possibilities
Recycled Gold Credit+ Fairmined combines the best of both worlds: the sustainability of genuine post-consumer recycled gold with the reliability of established Fairmined standards. It’s proof that circular economy and fair trade systems can reinforce each other.
With every gram you order, you strengthen proven, fair structures. With every credit, you support communities that have already proven that responsible mining works. With every order, you invest in the future of fair trade.
